Our Beliefs

Our core beliefs are based in the Christian tradition
and reflect our United Methodist heritage.

We hold in common with other Christians the core of the Christian faith, as expressed in the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed.

We believe in the Trinity, that God is one God in three persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe that God created all that exists.

We believe in Jesus Christ, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born to the Virgin Mary.

We believe that Jesus atoned for our sins in His crucifixion, that He died, and three days later was resurrected from death.

We believe that at the end of his earthly ministry, Jesus returned to heaven and will come again to inaugurate a new, perfect, and eternal reign of God in which God and creation are fully reconciled.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, God’s continuing presence in the world and within the individual believer.

We believe in one universal Church, made up of all Christians.

We believe that all Christians, on earth and in heaven, are one body, bound in the love and grace of God.

We believe that God forgives us when we repent of our sins.

We believe that God offers us grace.

We believe in eternal life and the resurrection of the body when Jesus returns to earth.

As part of the Methodist movement, and in the Wesleyan tradition:

We believe God saves us by grace and calls us to respond to the call to be Jesus’ followers.  When we respond to the call to discipleship and profess our faith in Jesus, God redeems us by justifying grace, and we enter into a personal relationship with Jesus in union with the church.

We believe that God loves all people and calls all people to be followers of Jesus.  This means that all people are called and invited to be part of the church.  The church’s mission is to share this good news, inviting people to follow Jesus.

We believe the Bible is the primary source for Christian belief and life, revealing God’s Word to us.

We believe the Kingdom of God will be eternally established when Jesus returns to earth, but that we are called to embody the reign of God now.  God calls us to do good in our communities and in the world, to refrain from doing harm, and to seek to grow in God’s love and grace.

We believe that even after we become followers of Jesus, God’s grace continues to work within us to make us more like Jesus.

We believe in two Sacraments, Baptism and Holy Communion.  These Sacraments are outward and visible signs of an inward and spiritual grace.  Jesus instituted these two Sacraments in Scripture, with a command that we should continue celebrating them.
