The call to stay awake continues this week (and will into December). This time it's St. Paul's turn to jostle us. In 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 Paul encourages us to encourage one another to be right-minded, focused, alert for Jesus' return.
In those days people were expecting Jesus to return any day and the delay was disheartening. When you wait for the arrival of something and are disappointed day in and day out you begin to look less confidently and, eventually, not at all.
Paul did not want Jesus' followers to stop looking for him and, even more so, he didn't want them to stop living for him.
The Christian faith rises and falls on Jesus - the name above all names (Ephesians 1:15-23) - but the witness of the Church rises and falls on Jesus' disciples.
There is too much at stake and too great is God's investment in us for us to not boldly live for the Kingdom of God. We have been entrusted with an incredible treasure and the God who risked entrusting us with it expects a return (Matthew 25:14-30).
I hope you'll be part of worship Sunday to honor Jesus, to stay focused on his Kingdom, and to recommit to a life of boldly living for him.
While you're at Central Sunday morning, please stop by The Commons and meet one of our staff members or volunteers who will be ready to assist you with getting started with Realm. Realm will help our church family know more, grow closer, and do better together. It's an exciting move for us and your participation will be critical to helping us get the most out of Realm.
