In Christ, "There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus" (Galatians 3:28).
"There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all" (Ephesians 4:4-6).
The Church has a response to the division and discord that humanity continues to perpetuate: Jesus. We are made one in him. We are part of the one Body of Christ. To claim Jesus is to be claimed by him and when he claims us we are connected with all the others Jesus has claimed.
Today we honor the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who gave his life seeking not just equality, but unity among races and socioeconomic classes. It remains a goal worthy of our effort because it's fundamental to our faith.
The Helping Florence Flourish movement identified bridging racial division as the most significant need in our community. In one of many efforts to build those bridges, HFF has invited Dr. Tony Evans to Florence for an event held on February 16-17. Click here to learn more about the event and about a "Oneness Embraced Choir" being formed for the event (first article under the photo). Being part of the community choir does not require an ability to read music. Rehearsals begin tonight at First Presbyterian Church on Cherokee. Click here to register. If you can't make tonight's practice, register and start next week.
Today and always, pray for and act toward unity in Christ.
