As our nation continues to grieve the deadliest active shooter event in our history, we have to draw on the resources that we have. We are not in a position to provide medical or emotional care in Orlando. Most of us are not prepared to fashion policy. Our primary resource for an event like this is to offer prayer and consolation where we are.
Don't mistake our distance from Orlando as making our prayers meaningless. Don't mistake the comfort we give one another and those who identify with the victims as inconsequential. When events like this occur, how we respond where we are sends a message that reverberates from where we are to the epicenter of the heartbreak.
Central will host a community Service of Prayer and Remembrance this Thursday (June 16th) at 6:00 p.m. in our sanctuary. There will be space for reflection and prayer in the service. There will be lament and reminders of hope. We will light candles for each person who died in Orlando and for those who were injured and have given care.
Please join us tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. Please share this with others who would want to know about the opportunity to seek the Holy Spirit's comfort and the solace of community in the wake of this tragedy.
