War in Iran

Dear Friends, 

Like you, I have been following the news of the recent military strikes on Iran by the United States and Israel. This pastoral letter is not a political statement, but rather a call to prayer.   

War has been enjoined. Lives have already been lost, and more will be lost if the violence continues. Casualties include American service members, as well as civilians in Iran and neighboring countries.   

Let us pray for the people of Iran and the surrounding region who now find war at their doorsteps. 

Let us pray for those who are grieving the loss of loved ones and for those living in fear. 

Let us also pray for the protection of service members who lie in harm’s way, and for God’s comfort and strength for their families. 

Regardless of our personal opinions of the various world leaders involved, 1 Timothy 2:1-2 urges us to pray for all who are in positions of high authority, that they lead in ways that seek the common good.  In that spirit, encouraged by the words of Scripture, let us pray for President Trump and the leaders of the United States.  Let us pray for Benjamin Netanyahu and the leaders of Israel. Let us pray for the leaders of Iran, and for leaders around the world who must make difficult decisions in a time of global uncertainty. 

Most of all, let us pray for peace.
