Central United Methodist Church invites the public to attend the 15th annual “Spirit of Central” held on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 from 5:30-7:30pm in the Davis Christian Life Center. Dinner will be served from 5:30-6:15pm and costs $6 for adults and $3 for children (under 12). The meal will include homemade hamburger steaks (hamburger sliders for children), sautéed onions, gravy, whipped potatoes, rolls, broccoli casserole, pasta salad, fresh watermelon, apple pie and ice cream.
The program is free and will begin at 6:15pm. This year we are fortunate to have the Honorable James E. Lockemy, retired Major General and Chief Judge of the South Carolina Court of Appeals, as our guest speaker. Judge Lockemy will speak about the Great War (World War I) especially as it relates to the Pee Dee area. Entertainment will include patriotic songs from this era performed by McCutcheon Road (Happy Pendergraft and Faith Godwin), as well as the national anthem and God Bless America performed by vocalist Rebecca Thompson.
Spirit of Central began in 2004 as a way to put reverence toward history and patriotism, and has been going strong ever since. There will be tables provided for children and adults to write letters to our servicemen stationed around the world. Children’s activities include a flag parade, playground activities, and a visit from the Kona Ice truck! Please come and participate in this special event!
