Continue to pray, but also consider giving financially. Maybe a good way to look at it is the think about the money you might have spent evacuating this storm, but didn’t have to. Could you give a portion of that to assist those who will be dealing with the storm’s aftermath for some time? If you want to give through Central, note the gift is for UMCOR and we’ll contribute the money to their efforts to help. They have already awarded our Annual Conference a $10,000 emergency grant to get relief support in motion.

Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is seeking volunteer teams of 3-4 people to prepare and serve meals at three shelters in Marion County starting after Hurricane Florence passes through our area. The Salvation Army will provide the food, equipment and instructions. No expertise required, just a willingness to serve our neighbors in need. We presently anticipate that the service would first start on Sunday morning, but that is subject to change based on what the storm does. If you or a group of your friends are willing to serve, please send an email to Jim Peterson at Just let Jim know who is willing and when you or your group can serve, and he will coordinate with the Salvation Army and you to set up the service.
