The children helped Rev. Kathy Campbell see lots of crosses in our sanctuary yesterday. In each of Central's worship spaces, the cross is a primary focal point. That is not by accident.
One way to unite people is to have something significant toward which we are all moving. And, one of the ways to sow division is to distract people from the goal with less important debates and constantly raising minor issues.
The cross is a unifying focal point for us. Wherever we are on the path, if we keep our attention on the cross of Christ, the symbol of his love and mercy, we should be increasingly united in sharing his love and mercy. That, we pray, will keep us from the damaging division caused by unimportant distractions.
May the love and mercy of Christ be our focus today.
