Dinner
and a Movie
Each Wednesday from October through April we have Dinner and
a Movie, which is a casual, small group dinner and movie time.
Dinner and a Movie meets from 5:30 - 7:30 on Wednesday evenings.
These gatherings take place in the Youth Lounge on the second
floor of Central Place and are an opportunity for the youth
to visit, work on projects, play games in the game room or just
watch the movie with caring adults.
Supper and Synago
On Wednesday of every month from October through April, we have
Supper and Synago. Synago is a Cokesbury produced, student-led
Bible Study. Materials are provided, and while each 10 person
group is led by two students, adult counselors are present as
participators. This has been an extremely successful way to
encourage youth to discuss faith issues openly and bond together
as a caring group. The evening begins with a family style, sit
down dinner in upstairs Central Place. Supper and Synago meets
from 5:30 until 7:30pm.
Parenting Seminars for Parents of Teens
Central's Youth program is committing to enhancing relationships
between teens and their parents, and to building a church family
around these teens. In an effort to assist this goal, we have
a seminar led by an outside speaker in January. These sessions
include talks by the speakers for just the parents, discussion
with parents and teens, and a parent forum, where parents are
encouraged to get to know one another in order to get to know
the teens in their child's life. Parents of teenagers and pre-teens
are encouraged to attend.
Confirmation
Confirmation is an exciting time in the life of the church and
the
lives
of our young people. Central starts the Confirmation program
in January each year, when the confirmands begin a sixteen week
journey of faith with their mentors. Confirmands will also be
participating together with their class in a mock wedding, a
tour of the sanctuary and other events.
Confirmands travel to Lake Junaluska in March for a Retreat
to learn about the Methodist Church. Confirmation is open to
any youth in 7th grade or above, and who wants to be a member
of Central United Methodist Church.
